Assamese Poem
ঘুমুতি ভাঙিলে পৰীও বোলে আঁতৰি যায় ;
“I haven’t seen it, Yet I heard from my grandmother when I was a child, The appearance of the fairy is beautiful.
I always wanted to see fairies.
Whenever I was drowning in the ocean of imagination, Even then, perhaps it was obvious It wasn’t about the fairy body!!
There is an indescribable aura in the eyes.
Being an ordinary human being who can’t see, It seems to remain today, I want to see fairies.
They say that the fairies leave when they break their sleep; Someone to the land of the moon.. My grandmother said it long ago.”
Summary
The poem reflects the speaker’s longing to witness the beauty of fairies, inspired by tales shared by their grandmother during childhood. Despite never seeing them, the speaker imagines the allure of fairies, perceiving their beauty beyond physical appearance. There’s a mystical quality described, especially in the fairies’ eyes, creating an unspoken fascination.
As an ordinary human unable to perceive such enchantment, the desire to see these mystical beings remains strong. The poem touches on the belief that fairies depart when they awaken, disappearing to the moon, echoing the wisdom passed down by the speaker’s grandmother. Overall, it encapsulates a yearning for the elusive and magical world of fairies that continues to captivate the speaker’s imagination.
