The Government of Assam, through the General Administration Department (GAD), has officially released the Holiday List for the year 2026. This notification outlines all public holidays, restricted holidays, bank holidays, half-day holidays, and festivals to be observed by Government Offices. The same applies to Revenue Courts, Magisterial Courts, and selected educational institutions in Assam.

Assam Government Holidays 2026 – Complete List
The Government of Assam has declared 35 Gazetted Public Holidays for the year 2026. These include major festivals such as Magh Bihu, Bohag Bihu, Republic Day, Durga Puja, Diwali, and more.
1. Assam Public Holidays 2026 (Gazetted Holidays)

- Magh Bihu & Tusu Puja – 14 January 2026 (Wednesday)
- Republic Day – 26 January 2026 (Monday)
- Dol Jatra – 3 March 2026 (Tuesday)
- Id-Ul-Fitr – 21 March 2026 (Saturday)
- Good Friday – 3 April 2026 (Friday)
- Bohag Bihu – 14, 15 & 16 April 2026
- May Day & Buddha Purnima – 1 May 2026 (Friday)
- Independence Day – 15 August 2026 (Saturday)
- Durga Puja & Vijaya Dashomi – 18 to 21 October 2026
- Kali Puja & Diwali – 8 November 2026 (Sunday)
- Christmas Day – 25 December 2026 (Friday)
A total of 35 full public holidays are declared.
2. Half Holiday (1 PM) – Assam 2026
The Government of Assam has declared a half-holiday:
- Lakshmi Puja – 25 October 2026 (Sunday)
Government offices will close at 1 PM on this day.
3. Assam Bank Holidays 2026
Under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the following days are declared as Bank Holidays:
- Annual Bank Closing Day – 1 April 2026 (Wednesday)
Banks will remain closed to complete annual account closure.
4. Restricted Holidays (Optional Holidays) – 2026
Assam Government employees can avail any two of the following restricted holidays, based on personal preference:

- Shab-e-Barat – 4 February 2026

There are 39 restricted holidays listed in the official notification.
5. Local Holidays (District-wise)
As per the order:
- Each District Commissioner may declare one local holiday (except Kamrup Metro).
- Kamrup Metro will get two local holidays, approved by the Hon’ble Chief Minister.
- Ali-Aye Ligang: Full holiday for 11 Districts:
Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Majuli, Charaideo, Biswanath.
6. Special Casual Leave (For Govt Employees)
Special leave may be availed on either:
- 9–10 July 2026 (can be clubbed with 11th & 12th July)
- 23–24 July 2026 (can be clubbed with 25th & 26th July)
7. Second and Fourth Saturdays
As usual:
- 2nd and 4th Saturdays → Holiday
- All other Saturdays → Full working days
