About Rajaji Tiger Reserve

Spread over 820 square kilometers, Rajaji Tiger Reserve is one of North India’s most scenic and diverse wildlife habitats. Named after C. Rajagopalachari (Rajaji), the last Governor-General of India, this reserve is part of the Shivalik mountain range in Uttarakhand. It forms a crucial corridor for the movement of elephants and tigers between Corbett and the Shivaliks.

The park is home to an incredible variety of wildlife, including:

Chaurashi Kutiya – The Beatles Ashram

The Rajaji Tiger Reserve is home to a famous landmark of Rishikesh. It is the Chaurashi Kutiya, popularly known as the Beatles Ashram.

In 1968, the world-renowned rock band The Beatles visited this ashram to learn Transcendental Meditation from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Many of their hit songs were written here midst of the serenity of nature.

Today, this site is part of the tiger reserve and is open to visitors. The ashram is adorned with artistic graffiti, meditation caves, and scenic jungle views. This creates a unique mix of spirituality, history, and wilderness.

Betal Ashram and Nature Trails

Another peaceful retreat within the reserve is the Betal Ashram area. It is known for its calm surroundings. It is also close to dense forests and riverbanks. Visitors can enjoy nature walks, silent meditation, and bird watching along the Ganga trails.

Jungle Safari at Rajaji

The main safari zones inside the park are Chilla, Motichur, Gohri, and Ranipur.

• Foreign Nationals – ₹500 per person
• Jeep Safari – ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 (per vehicle for 6 persons)

Booking a safari in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak seasons (December to April).
