About the Silsakoo tone Bridge

The Silsakoo Stone Bridge in the North Guwahati Area represents an Archaeological Site and an Ancient Heritage Monument of Assam.

People constructed the ancient stone bridge over a man-made canal connected to the mighty Brahmaputra approximately 450 to 500 years ago.

People of that era constructed the man-made canal to defend the kingdom from external threats while enabling water transport. In Assamese, locals refer to it as “Garh” and “Khawoi,” with “Garh” signifying a high wall-like structure and “Khawoi” denoting a deep canal.

Notably, the renowned Stone Bridge graces the East side of the Kingdom. These canals also played a crucial role in draining excess water from the kingdom during heavy summer rains. In summary, Silsakoo stands as an archaeologically advanced and historically significant place in Assam.
