Dinendra Nath Baruah was born on 27th February 1944 in Silsakoo, North Guwahati. He showed a strong passion for adventure and technology from an early age and lived a life filled with discipline, curiosity, and public service.

Pursued Education with Dedication

He began his education at St. Edmund’s School in Shillong, where he built a strong academic foundation. He continued his middle school at Don Bosco School, Guwahati, and later studied at A.K. Institution. He completed his graduation from North Guwahati College and moved to Madras (now Chennai) in 1972 to pursue an Advanced Technical Diploma from Hindustan Engineering. Baruah completed the course successfully and returned to Assam with new skills and ambition.

Served the State and the University

In 1975, he joined the Health Services Department of the Government of Assam. In 1978, Gauhati University recruited him as a technical person at the Computer Centre of the Physics Department. He worked with dedication and played a vital role in the university. Baruah retired in 2009 after decades of valuable service.

Excelled in Adventure and Shooting Sports

In his youth, he actively participated in trekking, hunting, camping, and shooting. He joined the NCC as a cadet and became a member of the Assam Rifle Club. He earned several medals in rifle shooting competitions. During a critical time, he bravely killed a tiger that had been attacking village cattle, earning him respect and recognition as a renowned hunter.

Brought Technology to the Cultural Sphere

He supported the local cultural body Pragjyotishpur Kala Parishar in North Guwahati by introducing innovative lighting and sound technologies. Baruah modernized their stage performances and earned appreciation for making culture more vibrant through technology.

Built a Loving and Educated Family

He married Reena Baruah, a respected teacher. Together, they raised two children: Shyamalendra Nath Baruah, who serves as a System Administrator at Gauhati University, and Anjushree Baruah, who holds a postgraduate degree. His father, Uday Nath Baruah, worked as a committed social worker, and his mother, Sabitry Baruah, nurtured the family with care and devotion.

Dedicated His Retirement to Society

After retirement, he shifted his focus entirely to social and religious service. He continues to serve as a Governing Body member of North Guwahati College. Baruah and his family generously donated more than 14 bighas of land to support the institution.

He also contributed rare Assamese cultural artifacts to the Auniati Satra and Trinayan Shiv Temple, ensuring that the heritage remains preserved. Baruah actively supports the North Guwahati Health Centre and participates in various philanthropic activities in the area.

Experiments and Innovations Even in Leisure

He spends his free time experimenting with electronic gadgets and tools. He set up a small laboratory at his home, where he builds and tests devices. Dinendra Nath Baruah maintains his heritage home and garden with strict discipline and attention to detail, creating a beautiful and inspiring environment.
