Zubeen Garg is one of the most celebrated singers, composers, and actors from Assam. Often called the “Heartthrob of Northeast India,” he has contributed immensely to Assamese, Hindi, and various regional music industries.

Early Life and Education

Zubeen was born to Mohini Mohan Borthakur (a well-known lyricist and dramatist) and the late Ily Borthakur. He was named after the famous musician Zubin Mehta. His upbringing was steeped in music and literature, which shaped his artistic inclinations from a very young age.

He lost his younger sister, Jonkie Borthakur, a promising singer, in 2002. This personal loss influenced much of his later music and philanthropic efforts.

Zubeen Garg’s musical journey began in the late 1980s when he formed the rock band called “Boom Boom.” He gained popularity with his unique fusion of Assamese folk music with rock elements. He released his debut album, “Anamika,” অনামিকা in 1992, which became an instant hit and established him as a talented singer.
