The Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Football Trophy, commonly known as the Bordoloi Trophy, stands as Assam’s oldest and most prestigious football tournament. Established in 1952 and named after Assam’s first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi. The tournament has significantly shaped the region’s football culture. Over the years, it has drawn renowned clubs from across India and even international teams from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Iran, and Uzbekistan.

The Guwahati Sports Association organizes this tournament with support from the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam, along with various District Sports Associations of Assam.

Revamped Format for 2025

The 70th edition of the Bordoloi Trophy promises to be one of the grandest yet. Offering ₹80 lakh in prize money, the tournament has drawn 280 clubs from 35 districts of Assam, featuring an impressive 605 matches and 8,400 players.

Tournament Phases

1. District Level (January 20 – February 5, 2025): Each of Assam’s 35 districts selected their top eight teams to compete locally and determine district champions.
2. Cluster Level (February 10 – 25, 2025): The 35 district champions competed in six regional clusters—Upper Assam, Northern Assam, Central Assam, Lower Assam, Barak Valley, and the Capital Region. The top two teams from each cluster advanced to the final round.
3. Final Round (March 1 – March 15, 2025): The 12 qualifying teams joined five invited clubs, forming a total of 17 teams competing in the final round at Judges’ Field in Guwahati.
