Chilarai was born in 1510. He was the founder of the Koch dynasty, and his mother was Sadhani, the daughter of a Koch noble. Chilarai was born in the Kamata region of northeastern India, which is now part of Bongaigaon district of Assam.
He played a pivotal role in expanding and consolidating the Koch kingdom. His military campaigns were instrumental in bringing large parts of Assam under the rule of the Koch dynasty. Additionally, these campaigns extended the dynasty’s influence into Bengal and even parts of present-day Bangladesh.
